Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
[OOC Activity]
Backtagging: Forever! Don’t worry about asking.
Threadhopping: For networks, always, but for logs, ask first.
Fourthwalling: In general, no. However, I’m willing to hash things out on a case-to-case basis.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): I’m pretty much down to RP whatever so long as it is IC and makes sense in the context of the game.
I would really prefer if your character doesn't mention immediately current political events though, heh! I don't want to make up future events that haven't happened yet, so I'm going to say that Roland is from a timeline where everything from the year 2000 on happened differently (the world trade center still seems to be standing in his version of New York, for example). However, if it is IC for your character to ask about this, I don't mind as long as it makes sense and we can talk it out.
[IC Activity]
Hugging this character: Sure. He might be a bit uncomfortable if it’s an adult and it’s out of nowhere, though. Aren’t you a bit old for that?
Kissing this character: Sure, but see ‘Flirting’/Warnings.
Flirting with this character: I’d find it hilarious, and Roland would be flattered, but if age gaps disturb you, keep in mind that Roland is 50 years old.
Fighting with this character: Sounds like fun!
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): For minor injuries with the proper lead-up there’s no reason to ask first, but for more severe ones, I’ll be happy to have him be injured so long as we discuss it.
Killing this character: This is also fine, but needs to be discussed first.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Fine, but ask first, and I’ll arrange it.
[First Impressions]
Visual impressions: Roland is actually rather short - he is dwarfed by almost every party member who isn't a child, and those children are catching up to him rather quickly! I've headcanoned his height as 5' 6". He hides his short stature with a straight posture and relentless confidence.
He appears to be about 21 years old. He has medium brown eyes with long black hair, and thick eyebrows.
As an old man, his hair has turned gray, and has light, near-white streaks.
Fashion: He tends to wear outfits that make him look important, with his own personal flair. Roland is secretly interested in men's fashion, knowing that a good tailor and sense of style can save a politician's reputation.
At the UN Summit at the beginning and end of the game, he wore a navy suit with contrasting gray pants, jade collar pins and cufflinks, and a light blue tie.
In canon (and in Snowblind), he wears a well-fitted guardsman's coat with an offset belt, with his bangs styled (as seen in his icon) to make up for the lack of personality in the uniform. Later, this can be upgraded to an extremely fancy golden military uniform, which Roland is very happy with!
He's somewhat vain, and takes great pride in his appearance. Before all else, he'll make himself appear as someone to be respected.
Demeanor: Roland's demeanor is a spectrum depending on his level of familiarity.
In public around strangers, he takes care to listen closely, without giving away too much of how he feels about it. He is stoic and extremely reserved, but makes sure that everyone surrounding him knows that he has heard their voice and has considered what they've said.
In public around his people (ie Americans, the people of Evermore), he is warm enough to give the impression that he cares for them, and seems disapproving of positions he is against, but not to the point where someone could glean real emotion from him.
In private around friends, is more open about how he is feeling, though is still reserved when it comes to extremes. He is supportive and openly kind, giving praise and some affection where necessary. This is where he'll get visibly angry and frustrated when things don't go his way. He can even be somewhat difficult to be around if he feels slighted, which is not a personality trait he'd allow a stranger to see.
In private alone (or with close family), Roland is very emotional. This is where he finally allows himself to display how he is feeling. He is physically affectionate, and expressive in his joy. Conversely, this is where his grief will make itself known. Roland has quite a few tears to shed.
Voice: Roland is voiced by Jared Zeus.
He speaks confidently in public, though his voice is reserved and calm. He speaks rather bluntly and sarcastically in private.
Scent: Roland takes great care that he always smells great. It's his worst nightmare for someone to interact with him and to go away with a negative impression of any kind. He pays very close attention to personal hygeine, and wears a lightly scented cologne when available.
In Snowblind, his first order of business was to get as many personal care supplies as he could. He's got a fairly large supply of towels, soaps and baby powder. It's important for a leader to smell good, even if there's no water! First impressions are critical!
Handwriting: Roland writes in cursive, with a bit of a fluorish, as all fine presidents do, according to him!
Magical aura: Roland is a magic user. Apparently, according to a spellcaster in Ni no Kuni, he is one of few people who was born with an innate ability to use magic, but was not able to access this talent until she tempered it. Specifically, Roland uses weapon magic, casting spells through his swords and guns. His magical ability is above average, but nothing special.
In Snowblind, he'll be unable to use magic, but does carry around a now-useless magical trinket in which he stored his weapons.
[Warnings]
-Roland is mentally in his late forties/early fifties, so if you’re thinking of hitting on him, just know what you’re getting into. As long as everyone involved is an adult I really don’t care what happens, but I know age gaps can gross some people out.
-Roland’s backstory involves his young child being terminally ill- I’ve headcanoned it as cancer because I’m too lazy to think of something else- though he eventually died of unrelated causes, so don’t go digging into that if melodrama and child death bothers you.
-Ni no Kuni II has an implied nuclear holocaust in which everyone in the United States, save for Roland, has been killed by a direct nuclear strike. Once again, just know what you’re getting into if you try and dig up some details from his past.
Snowblind: Runcible!

Roland has an invisible pet named Runcible the Righteous, a Higgledy, or nature spirit, who decided to follow him. Supposedly only the pure of heart can see Runcible, but for various reasons I think that’s just a myth. As outlined on my app, and to make things more fun and avoid needing to judge characters I'm canonblind to, I’m going to say that Runcible only allows those whom he likes to see him [read: is close to Roland], unless you’re a child, in which case, he likes you already. If you think your character can see Runcible, comment here so I can keep track and add him into our interactions!
